Malawi lake is also known as Nyasa lake; one of the largest lakes in Africa. This lake locates in a series of valleys in Africa and is ranked the 8th largest lake in the world, and also the 2nd deepest lake of Africa. Lake Malawi lies among Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi. Because the position of this lake is in the tropical area, this place has many species of large fish; most of them are freshwater fish, among them 1000 species belong to the emperor fish group are living here.
It is because of the diversity and prosperity of the ecosystem here that the Government of Mozambique made this place a consercation center, making every effort to conserve the biggest freshwater lakes and the ecodiversity of the world.
A lot of tourists came to Malawi just for a day to participatein large horse races in Africa, explore the highlands or grassfields, or simply to observe the effervescence and the suburban atmosphere; but they still do not forget to visit Malawi lake to enjoy its beauty.
Although this is not a luxurious or modern place like the best beaches in the world, it has the strong and mysterious attraction to tourists. Nature has created a magnificent landscape for this place, like a paradise of the lakes.

The Portuguese trader merchant Costa Cardosa was the first European to discover the potential beauty of Malawi lake. This lake also has a very romantic name “Lake of the stars” formed by David Livingstone. This name is from the light of the lanterns which were on local Malawi people’s boats. This scene, from a far distance, looks like stars in the sky.
The lake is also named the Stormy lake – because once the hurricane has arrived, it is of extreme intensity and cannot be forecasted. |
The Government has come up with a project of conserving and advancing the awareness of limited fishing and protecting the mammals which are under threat of extinction in Malawi.
