Info Post

Fes al Bali is the great boundary wall surrounding the Fes city – where the Muslims consider sacred, and is also the oldest wall of Fes, Morocco. Some people compare it with the popularity of the Jerusalem wall.

Established by Idris Idrisis II, it remains its beauty until now despite being through the damage of time.

Although having passed too many years, it still remains the old architectural style.

Fes city has 3 main areas including: Fes al Bali (people refer to it as the old Fes with walls surrounding); Fes Jdid (New Fes with the royal palace built inside) and Nouvelle Ville (built by the French and is also the newest part of Fes).

But the most standout place is the one we're talking about, Fes al Bali, because this place is named into world heritages in 1981.

The entrance to Fes al Bali.

To the other side of the gate lies a very crowded area.

You will be bewildered by the streets here because they shrink from 100 metres to only a few metres. That isthe reason for Fes al Bali to be proud of itself as a place without any air or noise or car exhaust fumes pollution.

The small paths but no less prosperous.

To many people, this place can be too quiet but you'll catch up with the lively atmosphere in the Sabath festival, which will last until the morning.

The arch-like architecture can be seen a lot here.

If you're afraid of exhausting your feet, you can hire a donkey to travel slowly through shops on narrow streets. Donkey is the means of transport for this place without any mechanic vehicle.

A small notice for you: taking pictures in Morocco, but in Fes al Bali, there is a lot to talk about. For elderly people here, the strict rules of Islam will make them feel uneasy if you want to take their pictures without informing them beforehand, especially female Muslims. But to children, they are always willing to be your amateur photography model

The children always love to pose in front of tourists' cameras.

Once arrived in Fes al Bali, you'll experience great feelings when penetrating into the narrow streets and the peaceful, tranquil atmosphere.
