There are many freshwater lakes around the world like the five Great Lakes in North America, the lake system formed by ice rivers in Finland, Norway and Sweden...among which, Africa has been gifted a series of freshwater lakes lying across the South-North length of the country by Mother Nature, with three main lakes Malawi, Tanyanyika and Victoria, along with many other small lakes.

All these three lakes are situated in an enormous valley formed by the stretching of Africa continent million years ago, and the valley is still broadening itself, stretching from the South of Malawi to the West of Africa all until the Red Sea.

The Malawi lake has the North-South length of 560 to 580 kilometres, according to recent researches. The widest place is 75 km in width, 30000km2 in area, and ranked the third largest lake in Africa and the eighth largest in the world. It is also the second deepest lake in Africa.

The lake lies between the countries Malawi, Tanzanua and Mozambique, a freshwater source and also a giản fishery for these countries.

The diversity in species of the fish in this lake allows fishermen to catch a great number of fish without the worry of exhausting the resources (most of them use unmechanicak methods). This is also a habitat of more than 1000 emperor fish species, this diversity is due to the separating process of large lakes into smaller ones hundred thousand years ago.

Back then, there was only a few species of emperor fish, when the lakes dried up creating smaller ones, the fish flocks are separated and therefore developed independently, creating new species. By the time the water level of the lakes rised up, the number of species reached 1000. This diversity made Malawi the lake with one of the greatest ecodiversity in the world. Not only that but also, the rainforest system surrounding this place provided the lake with sustainable source of water apart from the main river Rohuhu which runs into the lake.

The residents around this lake depend their lives on catching fish in the lake, which nowadays is exploited as a tourist attraction with many luxurious and convenient resorts across the lakeview. Tourists may visit an "oceanlike area" with deep blue and crystal clear water along with beaches, or experience the interestingly exotic wildlife here.
